About me
I’m Nik, a Yoga instructor based in East London with over 20 years of teaching experience. My journey began in 2000 while training as a concert pianist, as I sought a way to manage the stress and pressure of city life. After attending my first class at a local YMCA, I quickly noticed the calming and grounding effects of yoga, leading me to explore it more deeply.
My life-changing moment came when I stumbled into an Ashtanga yoga class, which challenged me physically but left me feeling rejuvenated. It was during my time practicing daily at Hamish Hendry’s studio that I truly embraced the transformative power of yoga. The strong sense of community, combined with the discipline of the practice and the freeing energy of the breath, ignited a passion that I now share with others.
I am forever grateful for having learned from renowned teachers such as Hamish Hendry, Roberta Giannotti, Denise Christian, Anna Wise, and Louise Newton, and having travelled to India to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois in Mysore.
While Ashtanga yoga remains at the heart of my teaching, I have a deep interest in seated meditation and mindfulness practices. Over the past decade, I’ve also incorporated Deep Restorative Relaxation (Yoga Nidra) in my daily practice and teaching. This deeply meditative practice allows you to experience profound relaxation, mental clarity, and emotional balance. It serves as the Yin counterpart to the more dynamic, Yang energy of Ashtanga.
I offer Deep Restorative Relaxation -Yoga Nidra- as both a soothing conclusion to physical practice and as a dedicated, standalone class for those seeking a way to reduce stress, promote restful sleep, or recharge their mental and emotional capacity. Recently, my training with Melanie Cooper and Jenny Wadsden further infused me with renewed inspiration for this transformative practice.
In every class, I focus on meeting the unique needs of each student. Whether through Ashtanga, Deep Restorative Relaxation(Yoga Nidra), or Meditation, I customize the practice to suit individual physical and emotional states, creating a safe space for personal exploration and healing. My teaching encourages students to cultivate an awareness of the internal experience, rather than striving for a specific external form.
